“Caregiving is not about what we do, but about who you are and the love you bring to others.”
Our story
“Caregivers are far too often neglected and forgotten,” says Wilhelm. “I know firsthand how terrifying, lonely and overwhelming it can be when you are suddenly expected to take on this incredibly demanding role for which you have little preparation or experience. I am proud to dedicate Stroke Caregiver Connection to my fellow caregivers. I hope they will find answers and comfort and, most importantly, they will realize that a caring network exists and they are not alone.”
A St. Louis native, Lana Wilhelm was a registered nurse for over 40 years, caring for patients in the Trauma/Neurological ICU. As a Case Manager, she focused on helping patients transition from hospital to home. Wilhelm holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Louis University and a Masters Degree in Health Administration from the University of Missouri.
Wilhelm and her husband, Rick, have been married for over 40 years. They have two children, two granddaughters and three grand dogs.
Because We Care…
We my husband experienced his stroke, our world changed. As a nurse, I thought that I would be well equipped if a loved one became ill, I was not. While dealing with the crisis, I found that the world held limited resources for the caregiver. Once my husband stabilized and I could catch my breath, my passion to help other caregivers took hold.
